Crystal E. Monds is a southern born creative merging the intrinsic cultural powers of visual arts and healing arts. This is a Black woman owned endeavor and a proud active supporter of the Movement for Black Lives.

Uprooted

This body of work is about displacement. Through a very literal uprooting of natural vegetation, it builds commentary around the alien integration of the natural world and the industrial world. The plant life here is also symbolic of other forms of displacement. Consider genealogy, cultural history, and geographic relocation, such as the Atlantic Slave Trade, for example.

Which of the 2 scenes is more appealing? Which is cleaner? Which is more distracting? Do the 2 simply show variety?


The inclusion of both organic and contrived environments explores the internal and external perceptions of city dwellers concerning the origins of nature.
